Jaques Derrida’s staring cat Logos, a bowing deer, domestic servants, a headstrong mare and the director’s 19 years younger boyfriend are some of the characters we meet in the essayfilm Dear Deer. The distanced and slightly voyeuristic documentary footage, mainly shot in Argentina and Japan, is accompanied by a voiceover in which asymmetrical relations, trans-species empathy, embarrassment and shame are discussed in a both investigative, descriptive and confessive manner.
