SAM RAPHAELSON, 20, is a young marine who, recently discharged for a nervous breakdown, attempts to re-assimilate into his former home life. He struggles to adjust to living with his parents once more and, as a result, seeks refuge in his old friends and acquaintances. To his dismay, his hometown has moved on. His friend, Max, is busy at school. His high-school girlfriend, Lucy, is moving up in the world. Though he also looks for help from others, including his therapist, minister, and former chemistry teacher, Sam can’t manage to hold a job, let alone find anyone who sympathizes with his struggles as fully as he needs.
