LAST REQUESTS tells the story of Maggie, a widow, who prepares the last meals of convicted men in Huntsville, Texas. She’s been cooking at the Huntsville Death House for the last 30 years and tonight’s her last night. Not because she wants it to be but because the Governor of Texas has abolished the last meal requests of inmates (this really did happen in 2011). Throughout the day, she prepares the final meal of a young inmate with Nancy, a younger cook who works over in the main prison, cooking for the general population. While the two women don’t necessarily agree on capital punishment; Maggie stays true to her beliefs. As the day comes to an end, Maggie reminisces of past last meals she’s prepared over the years and finally the last meal she was unable to prepare for her late husband, Derek.
