The old gardener works from morning till night in harmony with the rhythm of nature and the ancient Latvian wisdom. His happiness and fulfilment is a garden, which does not belong to him anymore but which he regards as his own – for years he has been contributing in it so much. He speaks to the garden and the garden responds, providing him with shelter and rich harvests. Autumn comes and gardening requires more and more effort, but he stubbornly goes on working. The gardener realizes that because of rush and the enormous amount of work he has not coped with everything. The younger house owners, in their wish to make the aged gardener’s life easier, hire a new gardener. The old gardener’s love for garden and his unwillingness to share it with anyone else leads up to taking a decision how to stay in the garden of his family forever. A poetically symbolic story about land, time passing by and the present-day reality.
