The Tea Horse Road is a cinematic documentary tracing one of history’s most extraordinary trade routes — the ancient path connecting Yunnan’s tea mountains to the Tibetan plateau. For over a thousand years, porters carried bricks of compressed tea on their backs, exchanging them for Tibetan horses that sustained Chinese civilization.
Through the story of Wei, a nineteen-year-old porter carrying ninety kilograms across mountain passes and river valleys, the film explores what it meant to walk this road — not for empire, not for power, but simply because people needed each other.
This road was not built by rulers. It was built by the need of people.
